Supporting Language Development Through Nanny Interactions
Your child is constantly absorbing language—and your nanny plays a key role in that development. The best way to support speech and vocabulary growth? Talk. A lot. Ask your nanny to narrate daily routines: “Now we’re putting on your shoes,” or “Let’s pour the milk.” This real-time language builds understanding through repetition and context.
Reading aloud is also essential. Encourage your nanny to read a few books daily, asking questions along the way like “What do you see?” or “What do you think happens next?” Even infants benefit from the rhythm of speech and eye contact during storytime.
Simple word games are powerful, too. Try “I Spy,” animal sounds, naming body parts, or singing songs with rhymes. For bilingual homes, invite your nanny to use both languages during play, reading, and routines. Hearing multiple languages early helps children distinguish sounds and absorb vocabulary naturally.
Remind your nanny that every word counts. Whether your child is babbling, forming short phrases, or telling whole stories, these moments of interaction build the foundation for communication. Celebrate new words together and offer encouragement when they get stuck or mispronounce. Language grows through connection—and caregivers are central to that process.
